A Village Detroit has experienced a remarkable success story with the adoption of Alvin Casey Park in Highland Park, MI. Through community effort, the pocket park has undergone an incredible transformation with restored park benches, renewed and now usable grills for cooking, a basketball court, improved landscaping, trash receptacles to keep the park clean, and a new playscape for children. The revitalization of the park has rehabilitated it as a community asset that connects with other restorative efforts within the Highland Park community. The renovation of Alvin Casey Park has given the residents of Highland Park an additional space to gather, socialize and exercise. Moreover, the project has created opportunities for community building and has contributed to the development of a sense of pride and ownership among the local residents.
